கன்னியாகுமாரி மறை மாவட்டத்தின் பெரிய தேவாலயங்களில் மார்த்தாண்டம் CSI தேவாலயம் ஒன்றாகும் இந்த ஆலயம் 1983 ல் Pastorate Church ஆக உயர்த்தப்பட்டது இதனை Pastorate ஆக உயர்த்த 75 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட ஆண்டுகள் ஆயின. மேலும் இந்த ஆலயம் முலமாக மகளுக்கு சேவை செய்யும் நோக்கில் பள்ளிகள், கல்லூரிகள், மருத்துவமனைகள், ஒரு எம்பிராய்டரி கைத்தொழில், ஒரு புத்தகநிலையம், ஒரு பத்திரிக்கை செயல்படுகிறது

இந்த தேவாலயத்தை கட்டியவர் Rev.ராபர்ட் சின்க்ளேர் (Rev. Robert Sinclair) இவர் ஸ்காட்லாந்தில் பிறந்தார், அங்கு மந்திரி பதவியை விட்டு விட்டு இந்தியா வந்தார் அவர் கிபி  1920 இல்-  மார்த்தாண்டம் வந்தார்.

தேவாலயத்தின் பிறப்பு

1924 ஜூலை 26 – ல் Rev .C.G. மார்ஷல் (Rev. C.G. Marshall) அடிக்கல் நாட்டினார் பின்னர் கட்டுமான பணி முடிக்க பத்து ஆண்டுகள் பிடித்தன. Rev.ராபர்ட் சின்க்ளேர்வின் தனிப்பட்ட மேற்பார்வையில் அழகான இடம் தேர்வு செய்யபட்டு அவரது கனவான மார்த்தாண்டம் CSI தேவாலயம் கட்டி முடிக்கப்பட்டு 1933- மே13 அன்று பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டது.

Rev. Robert Sinclair Served 1919-1939 The Church was built by Rev. Robert Sinclair born in Scotland who came to India after his ordination as a minister on the 3rd of August, 1910, in Scotland. He succeeded Rev .H.I Hacker in 1919 and came to Marthandam and served God from the year 1920. During his service between 1919 and 1939, he built almost all the mission buildings that adorn Marthandam today. The birth of Church   On the 26th of July, 1924, the foundation stone was laid by Rev. C.G Marshall, for this magnificent stone Church. It took ten years to complete the construction work and Rev. Sinclair personally labored with devotion to fulfill his vision! His dream was to make a beautiful place of worship for the emerging congregation in Marthandam. The church was completed and dedicated on the 13th of May, 1933. It today stands as a monument to his name. Thanks be to God for this blessed Church The farewell Owing to illness of Mrs. Sinclair, she went home on July 13th 1937. Rev. Sinclair also followed his wife to Scotland in June 1939 and the sinclairs were not able to return to Marthandam, India due to the second world war. Hence he served as a pastor in Glasgow town in Scotland. He was suddenly called to eternal rest on September 12th 1946.  We, the church members fondly remember the dedicated missionary service of Rev. Sinclair. May the Lord bless and keep the family members of Rev. Robert Sinclair. The Church at present The Marthandam Church which became a Pastorate in 1983 had a history of over 75 years before it was upgraded to what it is now - one of the largest district Churches in the Kanyakumari Diocese. It has the privilege of being the centre of various services connected with the Diocese, such as schools, colleges, Hospitals, an Embroidery Industry, a Book depot, a Press and also a shopping complex. At present  indeed  the Marthandam CSI Church is one of the most admired structures in Kanyakumari district
At present a congregation of 1195 families is worshiping in the Church and it  impacts the spiritual and social life of the people in this area. The Church has its own ministries such as Sunday school, Christian Endeavor, Women Fellowship, Young boys & girls prayer fellowship and Men's Fellowship. SINCLAIR MEMORIAL HALL AND A LIBRARY: These two departments are undertaken by the Church and they are functioning at the Church campus
